Real estate in Burkina: The main actors

Real estate in Burkina: The main actors

There are public promoters, private developers and financial institutions. Public promoters are state-owned companies and government-sponsored project programs. They have, among other activities, the development of land and the production of real estate for the benefit of domestic and foreign investors. This is the case of SONATUR. To these are added the private real estate developers. This is, as indicated by the above-mentioned law, of natural or legal persons whose activity consists in carrying out or having carried out urban planning and development operations ... Most of them are "Men or women of business". In other words, in addition to real estate, they carry out other activities. Financial institutions are stakeholders in real estate development. Traditional partners, they play an active role in the financing of real estate.
To better defend their interests, promoters are grouped into associations or unions. Among them, the National Union of real estate developers of Burkina (SYNAPIB) created in 2013. It is headed by the CEO of the International Real Estate Company Wend Panga, Julien Ouedraogo. He is one of the pioneers in real estate development in Burkina Faso (2nd approval obtained). According to him, the purpose of SYNAPIB is to ensure the defense and collective and individual protection of members' interests. "We created this union to support our members (around 40), to help them overcome certain difficulties. It is also to indicate the way to be followed to allow the real estate promotion in Burkina Faso ", he confides. The members of the structure are involved in the construction of housing, including those of the city of Bassinko. "We are also committed to our own serviced sites," suggested the president of SYNAPIB. The real estate developer can therefore decide to support the state by building housing. In this case, he submits his project for validation to the competent structures of the Ministry in charge of the habitat. The developer may also purchase land, provide them with the intention of selling them naked or erecting homes for sale. In addition to SYNAPIB, there is another promoters exchange framework. This is the National Union of Real Estate Developers created on November 12, 2016. Its Secretary General, the Director General of EXPERTIS, Gilbert Kafando explains: "We felt that the promoters need to be gathered around a structure which could be the interlocutor of all the partners ". The new structure aims to bring about a change in the organization, to lead reflections to better organize the sector, to improve the activities of promoters. To listen to Mr Kafando, the Union intends to pose as immediate actions the organization of forums or days of real estate. It must also reflect on its contribution to the implementation of the 40,000 housing project. Why so many structures for the same activity? According to the SG of the Union, there is nothing too much. Because all the existing associations fight for the safeguarding of the interests of the promoters.
While the real estate development sector seems to be the preserve of men, there are still women there. This is the case of Kotima Rouamba, Director of Furniture and Equipment Real Estate Services (SIME SARL). She recognizes that few women dare to venture into this area. Mrs Rouamba admits that she has not yet had a problem related to her gender. Like any other activity, she thinks there are ups and downs. The big difficulty evoked remains the mobilization of funds for the realization of the works. "Otherwise, I have not encountered any problems because I am a woman. On the contrary, I benefit from the advice of the deans ". She is confident and determined to succeed in this area. The proof is that it contributes to the establishment of the city of Bassinko with the construction of 100 dwellings.
